This was introduced to me by someone from Tamil Nadu, who used help me in kitchen when I lived in Mumbai.We in Kerala, usually make chutney tamarind which gives the sour taste but yes Tomato's are good option too, gives a totally different taste with coriander leaves/cilantro.
Ingredients
To Grind
Tomato 2 large
Coconut 1/4 cup
Ginger a tiny lil piece
shallots 3to 4 no's
Coriander leaves -2 table spoon
Red chili powder - 1 tsp
Seasoning
Oil - vegetable oil - 2 Tsp
Mustard Seeds - 1 tsp
Dry Red Chili 2 no's
Curry leave a few
Shallots 2 to 3 no's
Method
Grind the main Ingredients (under grind )
Heal oil and pop the mustard seeds , followed by the other ingredients ( under seasoning )
Add the tomato mixture to it , cook for a few minutes.
Add salt to taste , stir and serve hot with Dosa or Idli.
Notes : Do not add more Cilantro / Coriander leaves as then the raw taste of the same overpowers all other flavors.
