Prawns fry

My stylish Prawns

While going through some prawn recipes in the web , this "tail up "prawns found to be interesting , so thought to give it a try.Only the tail up looks stylish here as the recipe is typical kerala style , thinking of calling it  " Fusion Prawns " as there is something called the "new generation " these days with fusion style !!
I once thought I am in the new generation but then within no time I realized that I am also being pushed back..its just the matter of few years when you are in your teens then in your early twenty's that you can claim to be in the so called "New Generation". That's how it is in my place especially for girls , once they are married off, its their turn to take up life seriously , being loaded up with responsibilities. Hey there are exceptions too it all depends on the person whom who you are going to be tied up with :) Don't know how this new generation concepts popped in here all of a sudden

No more serious bla bla here , for this tail up - need to know how to split the prawns to make it stand like this one here , initial trials were failures for me but once I got the trick , it was easy. Looks good and taste good too.
You don't have to keep its tail up to try this dish , can fix it in to a toothpick or skewers stick  , it looks good when it curls up in the stick.

When you clean it just give it a split on top (while deveining it)  and that's it

Ingreidients

For marination

Prawns - I tried it with a few , 1/2 pound i guess
Chili Powder - 1 table spoon
Turmeric Powder - 1 tsp
Salt to taste
Lime juice / Vinegar - 2 tsp

For the gravy

Onion - 1 Medium
Garlic -3 cloves crushed
Ginger  - crushed 1 tsp (very little)
Curry leaves - 1 spring
Tomato - 1 medium finely chopped
Chili Powder - 1 tsp
salt to taste
Coconut oil - 3 table spoon (I used anon stick pan ) add more if needed

Method

Marinate the prawns with the ingredients under marination , and keep aside for 10mints.
Heal oil in a pan and fry the marinated prawns carefully , keeping its tail up (if you find it hard to handle, then fix a tooth pick in to the prawns leaving the tail part,  it keeps them from curling much ) and then fry for a few minutes , remove from heat.
In the same pan with the oil , fry first the ginger and garlic crushed , then add the onions , cook till they become golden brown then add the finely chopped tomato and curry leaves to it , cook for another 7 to 10 mints till the oil starts to separate , add 1 tsp chili powder and salt . Mix well.
Place the fried prawns on the serving plate first then top these prawns with the gravy.

TIPS : prawns cooks faster , it just takes the time to cook an egg , make sure you flip both sides and keep for a few minutes before you remove these from heat , though over cooking makes prawns rubbery

: If using a toothpick , do not fix it across as then it curls up  that is also fine  , but if you want its tail up , try to fix the toothpick through the prawns , leaving the tail.
Goes good with cocktails
